Best Of: Best Free Antivirus Software

choosing-the-right-anti-virus.jpg

The moment has come to review the top free anti virus programs, a lot of different opinions have gone around as to which free anti virus suite offers the most protection not only by detecting the virus but, removing them as well.Over the last few years I have been changing anti virus every now and again to test the different features, detection rate and removal rate from a dozen or so of these applications, and these are my findings:

1) Avast Home Edition: Avast Home Edition is the best out of them all, with a complete anti-virus package, that is is free for registered home non-commercial users and has versions available not only for all Windows OS but for many others aswell. It has two different interface for novice and advanced users, an on-access scanner with Standard Shield (which protects against execution and opening malware programs) and an embedded e-mail scanner which scans incoming and outgoing email messages. avast! integrates with your Windows right click menu, and includes a special screen saver to scan your computer while it’s no in use.It is updated very frequently (manually or scheduled), you can also download different skins and select the specific scanning areas with it’s many different options. avast! has had the best detection and removal rate so far, packed loaded with features it a must have!

2) Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition: Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition is my second choice thanks to its powerful detection rate, AntiVir has detected viruses no other free (or in most cases pay) antivirus could. It detects and removes more than 50,000 viruses and has a good Internet-Update Wizard for easy updating. The built in resident Virus Guard serves to monitor file movements automatically, it is updated frequently and offers simple scanning options as well as a basic interface.

3) AVG Anti-Virus: AVG Anti-Virus is not the best but it is a decent contender, offering Resident Protection, e-mail Scanner, On-Demand Scanner, and Virus Vault for safe handling of infected files and automatic updates. The free version (like many other applications) is limited in features, but includes all basic scanning functionality as well as real-time protection, using the same scanning engine as the pay version BUT updates are provided on a low priority basis.

Respected Contenders: PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition, ClamWin Antivirus, BitDefender Free Edition.

Hello!, Matthew is awesomely cool with tons of knowledge and lots of experience in blah blah blah ...he doesn't like writing about himself cause it always seems to come out sounding self-centered, instead he will write this in a third person which most authors do anyway...perhaps it's because it makes us sound important cause it gives the illusion someone (non biased) thinks so highly of us they took some time off their own to write this :).Read more about me here...
