Defragmenting your hard drive every now and again is a vital part in keeping your computer running at its full potential. Installing and deleting software or large files leaves junks of fragmented space on your disk, whenever your computer is looking for something it has to read through all that unnecessary fragmented data and will cause your hard drive to slow down dramatically, in some cases PC crashes, slow startup and shutdown and sometimes even system failures.Windows brings its own defragmenter which is pretty basic but gets the job done, if your looking for something more powerful, try one of these.
1) Auslogics Disk Defrag: Auslogics Disk Defrag is a disk defragmentation tool that supports FAT 16, FAT 32, and NTFS volumes. It doesn’t offer anything to fancy or different from the standard Windows defragmenter, except perhaps more speed and somewhat more user friendly.
2) JkDefrag: JkDefrag is a disk defragmenter that can be run in as-needed or automatic mode via command-line parameters or screensaver integration. By default, the program uses a Fast Optimization, designed for everyday use, but it also supports custom parameters that can move files to the end (or beginning) of the disk, sort them by name, size and other criteria. Even though JkDefrag can be run with a standard Windows GUI, most of it`s strong features are aimed at users that are familiar with command-line usage.
3) SpeeDefrag: SpeeDefrag is a simple program, that restarts your computer and runs defrag.exe with optimized windows settings before loading your desktop, which allows for faster and more thorough defragmentation. Once the defrag process has finished, it can optionally shut down your PC, otherwise reboot it.

Yeah but none of those defraggers are as good as Diskeeper’s latest version. Diskeeper has a better interface, easier and more comprehensive configuration options, and an excellent automatic defragment capability for multiple drives. I find that it is also much faster than the others mentioned, while taking up hardly any system resources even in automatic mode.

Thats true but Diskeeper is payware and these are all freeware. Besides if your planning on spending some money on a good defragger I would personally go with O&O Defrag Pro Edition. The amount of features and defrag options is incredible, you won’t be disappointed.
