What are ftp clients? ftp stands for File Transfer Protocol and is mainly used by webmasters to upload and download files from their websites server.I know this article won’t be appreciated by all my reader as only a few of you may own a website but for the ones who do, its a review I think you’ll find helpful.
1) FileZilla: FileZilla is powerful Open Source FTP/SFTP client with many features. It includes a site manager to store all your connection details and logins as well as an Explorer style interface that shows the local and remote folders and can be customized independently. The program offers support for firewalls and proxy connections as well as SSL and Kerberos GSS security. Additional features include keep alive, auto ascii/binary transfer, download queue, manual transfers, raw FTP commands and more. A nice program for beginners and advanced user alike.
2) Encrypted FTP: EFTP (Encrypted File Transfer Protocol) is a client/server application, that offers the same functionality as standard FTP, but with encryption. It uses a combination of Public Key encryption and Symmetric Key encryption to allow fast and secure transfers over any TCP/IP network, including the Internet. EFTP offers an easy to use graphical interface with user management, user groups, group administration and more. The server can be run as a strictly encrypted server, or like a regular FTP server that allows connections from standard FTP clients as well. A small, standalone client is included with the download, that can be used to initiate a secure connection to EFTP obtain the most secure level of data transfer. EFTP also includes several advanced features like IP restrictions, logging, banned user list and more.
3) Core FTP Lite: Core FTP Lite is a full featured FTP client with SSL/TLS support, queuing, sessions, remote file searching, resume of transfers, bandwidth control, recursive deleting and much more. It offers a simple interface, similar to the traditional WS_FTP interface, as well as different view layouts to choose from. A built-in site manager lets you save your favorite sites for quick access and also specify custom connection details for each (passive, keep alive, buffer size etc.). Additional features include browser integration, HTTP/FTP proxy support, Socks 4/5, SSH, SSL,SSH/SFTP support and more. Easy to use interface and fast loading file listings.
