Take a quick look at your taskbar. Look at the bottom right. See all of those little icons? How many do you have? 5? 10? More than 10?! Each one of those is a program that has been installed & configured to start up every time you
start Windows. 99% of them are useless and only waste system resources & greatly increase boot times.
For example…You decide to install Quicktime on your computer. Suddenly, every time you start your PC, Quicktime starts as well (as noted by the little Quicktime icon in the taskbar). Why would you ever possibly want it to start when the computer starts? It has virtually no use, eats up RAM, slows boot times, and is only put there by most software manufacturers to help ensure that you use their product.
1) Click START.
2) Click RUN.
3) Type MSCONFIG & then press your ENTER key.

5) Uncheck EVERYTHING (especially anything ATI-related) except the following:
» Your firewall.
» Your anti-virus.
» Your anti-spyware.
» If you have a keyboard with special function keys, leave its driver checked.
» If you have a laptop with a touchpad, leave the touchpad drivers checked.
» If you overclock your video card using CoolBits or nTune, leave “nwiz” checked.
» If you overclock your video card with any other program such as RivaTuner or ATITool, leave them checked.
» If you overclock your CPU using uGuru, ClockGen, CPUFSB, etc. leave them checked.
If you are unsure about an item in the list, google the startup items name.If that still doesn’t find you an answer, leave it how it is.
6) Click APPLY.
7) Click OK.
8 ) Click EXIT WITHOUT RESTART.
9) NOTE: When you reboot the first time after making these changes, you will get a System Configuration Utility popup letting you know that changes have been made. Simply click on the little check box and then click OK. After doing so, you will not see the popup again unless you make more changes to your startup list.
