How To: Disable Windows Vista Firewall And Defender

If you have recently downloaded a free private firewall (eg: Comodo Firewall Pro) you may want to disable the windows firewall as it is annoying sometimes with its security pop ups, it will also free up some well needed memory. The same applies with Windows Defender even if its somewhat good you can always find better replacements out there and some might even be free.

1) Click StartControl PanelSecurity.

2) Click on the “Turn Windows Firewall on or off” link, a UAC pop up will appear, select Continue.

3) Check the “Off” option then click Apply and OK.

If for some reason you want to re enable just do the same thing but instead of check the OFF box select the On one.

Now on to Windows Defender.

1) From the same Security windows we left off above select Windows Defender.

2) Go to Tools -> Options.

3) Here you will find a lot of configuration options. Scroll down to the end of the list. You will find there a section called Administrator options. Deselect the “Use Windows Defender” box and press the Save button.

4) Now you will receive a notification saying that “Windows Defender is turned off”. Click on Close and you are done.

If you want to re enable it, repeat the process above but this time check the “Use Windows Defender” box you unchecked before.
