How To: Make An Invisible Folder

In a previous article I mention how you could hide files and folder with the simple right click on the folder and select Hidden then click Apply. The problem with this solution to hiding your folders is that anybody can change your windows settings to view all hidden folders and files.Heres is a trick that will get around this problem and create an invisible folder instead, that has no text and no icon and you don’t need any application to do this.

1) Right Click on the folder you want hidden, then select Properties.

2) Click on the Customize Tab (Not all folders have this option, so if your’s doesn’t, create a new one.)

3) Click On the Change Icon… button.

4) The Change Icon box will pop up with the default Windows Icons (If it does not, then click on the Browse button and navigate to your WINDOWSsystem32 folder and then find and choose SHELL32.dll then click OPEN).

5) Then Scroll to the right and look for a blank icon. Select the blank icon then click OK.

6) Then click Apply. And you should now have a blank icon with only the text below it, like this:

7) To get rid of the text you must follow this procedure How To: Remove The Text From An Icon.

In the screen shot above, I have the view settings on Thumbnails, which puts the grey box around the folder. To remove that box, choose either the Icon, Tiles or List from the View settings.
