Have you downloaded a movie or something else using a bittorrent client and ended up with a folder containing a bunch of files you can’t open (.iso, .img, .bin, .cue)?
A .ISO file is called a disk image and it is a computer file containing the complete contents and structure of a data storage device, such as a Hard drive, CD or DVD.Opening and using an image file is quite simple, just do the following:
1. First you must find a disk image emulator program, theirs plenty out there like Alcohol 120% but you have to pay for the one.Instead there’s a great free alternative called Daemon Tools which is my personal favorite for these kind of things.
2. Download the right version for your OS and install Daemon Tools, if your a vista user you must run Daemon Tools as administrator (right click icon and select “Run as administrator”) for the first time.
3. Look in your taskbar and you will see the daemon tools icon, right click on it and select Virtual CD/DVD-ROM>Device 0: [ LETTER:] No media> Mount image.
4. A small window will open, browse the folder where the image file is located, and select the only file you see in the folder then click Open.
5. Vista users will get a popup asking them how to open it, just select play with the player of your choice.XP users will get a new folder opened, browse around till you find the folder with the biggest file (700+ MB’s) and open the media file with a player.Normally Winamp should do the trick but if it doesn’t try VLC Media Player which is another great freeware application that opens just about anything.
And thats it! I know it sounds daunting after reading all that, but trust me its really fast and simple :)
Note: If your opening image files that contain software or games, just open them as executables instead of opening with a media player.
