Wouldn’t you like to grow just a few more inches in height and feel more confident about yourself? A couple of years ago I really wanted to get signed up by this modelling agency, the problem was I was 17 and only 5′8″ and you needed to be at least 5′10″ to be accepted, I searched everywhere, reading tons of books and articles and finally after all that research, I started practising what I had learned and created my own workout to perform everday every single day, 9 month’s later I grew those 2 inches.But don’t think it only worked for me cause I was young, my friend Amanda wanted to work Qantas Airlines as a flight attendant but was only 5′2″ and already 21, after I showed her the exercises (which I really enjoyed =P) she started doing them on her for for about a year, on her 22 birthday she started noticing a growth spur and ended up with an incredible 5′5″, thats 3 inches past puberty years!
I’m going to show you how to grow a few extra inches just by eating a balanced diet with supplements, doing 20-30 minutes of stretching exercises a day (mostly yoga one’s), creating good sleeping habbits and some other tips along the way. Let’s go,
I’m sure if your reading this bit by now you’re probably interested in growing a bit more, medically speaking they say height increase after puberty is impossible.But many people have proved thats not the case by growing a bit more even in their late 30’s.
Lets start with the basics, In each of your long bones there’s at least two growth plates: one at each end that constantly grow through out puberty, most of your height comes from your legs.These growth plates fuse together at the age of 24 in males and 18 in females (in most ethnic races) making it impossible to grow any further.If you are under the age of 24 you are quite lucky still because by stimulating the human growth hormone, you can still pull out a few more inches from of your leg and also work on the spine which I’ll explain below.
The knee cartilage can grow longer and thicker if you can consistently train it under stress with the correct exercises. The cartilage will gradually adapt to the stress and grow to sustain the force.
The spinal exercises can be performed by anyone young or old as it never fuses together, 33% of your height comes from your spine which consists of 33 separate bone segments known as vertebrae held together by ligaments (tough and fibrous tissue). Out of these 33 vertebrae, only the lowest 9 are fused into two immovable bones, the sacrum and the coccyx, forming the back of the pelvis. All the other 24 vertebrae are permanently movable and thus will never be fused. These 24 vertebrae are the 7 cervical (neck), 12 thoracic (back of chest), and 5 lumbar (loin).
Located between each of these 24 vertebrae are cartilaginous pads called disks . The thickness of the disks determines the length of the spinal column and directly influences the height. There are totally 25 disks, their combined length accounts 25% of your total height. Since these disks are non-fusible cartilages, they can constantly grow thicker under the stimulation of growth hormone during a life time which explains why elderly people start to shrink due to Osteoporosis. The thicker those disks are, the longer your spinal column is and the taller you become. Even if each disk grows only 0.25 cm (0.1 inch) thicker, which is the length of this line in quotes “_”, you will grow taller by 0.25 * 25 = 6.25 cm (2.5 inches).
What you will need to do is put the spine in traction, basically decompressing it so you can increase the fluid capacity in the disks. This will thicken and strengthen the cartilage along the entire spinal column making it longer and stronger.
EXERCISES YOU WILL HAVE TO DO.
» General Stretching Exercises. – These exercises have been proven to be the MOST efficient out of the whole work out as it works on stretching every join of your body adding flexibility and loosening them up to grow those extra inches.They are derived from Yoga so if you have had any classes in the past it you will understand why they help.
» Exercises For The Spine. – As said above, spinal exercises work more than any other single aimed exercise to a body part as they can be performed by anyone and tend to be the easiest only requiring simple things as hanging, swimming ect..
» Exercises For The Knee’s. – It some people these exercises are even more effective than spinal ones but remember to do both so you don’t look disproportionate with long legs and a small back.There is an exercise in here than can even help peoples who’s growth plates have already fused (over 24 yr olds), these exercise is called Micro Fracture & Ankle Weights technique.
I performed all these exercises during my workouts but you can always try to find new things on your own that will do the same job, my good buddy Lorena who was 19, told me she started doing Pilates when we asked her about her growing height.
WHAT IS HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE?
The good thing about exercises is that not only it stretches your muscles and bones but stimulates your Human growth hormone (HGH).Your HGH is is a substance produced by a gland in the brain called the pituitary gland. This gland is often called the master gland, because it controls many of the other glands in the body. It is about the size of a pea and it lies above the roof of the mouth, beneath the brain. human growth hormone is a protein and is made of 191 building blocks called amino acids. It is also called somatotropin or somatropin which are the Greek words for body growth.
The pituitary gland secretes human growth hormone throughout a person’s life. This growth hormone works by causing other hormones and chemicals, called growth factors, to be produced in the body. These growth factors, along with growth hormone itself, travel through the bloodstream and cause growth and development to occur throughout the body.
How Do I Stimulate The HGH?
Anyone can stimulate it the question is, should you? Once you reach that certain age (24) where your leg/arm bones are already fused, there’s nothing you can do using the HGH, you should concentrate more on the spinal exercises or micro fracture technique .If you want to find out whether your bones are fused or not you can, just visit your general practitioner and ask him/her for an x-ray on the bones.
For those who still can grow with the HGH, you will need to do the following:
HGH is naturally produced in your body and its secretion can be optimized with a number of natural stimuli. The most powerful factors that can optimize human growth hormone secretion are from diet, level of exercise and sleeping pattern.
Diet
As far as diet is concerned you should avoid food with high carbohydrate content. Consuming food that is high in carbohydrate would induce hyperglycaemia (elevated blood carbohydrate) which tends to switch off human growth hormone secretion.
Because during hyperglycaemia, insulin, a polypeptide hormone, would be massively produced to regulates carbohydrate metabolism. As insulin and IGF-1 counterbalances one another, IGF-1 production gets driven into the basement for about 2 hours.
On the same token, avoid snacking or having an soda pop in between meals, as the digestion of your meal is over the insulin level goes back to normal you would like to prolong the time of IGF-1 production as long as possible. Do not suppress it with another dose of carbohydrate to drive insulin up again. Only have moderate amount of carbohydrates during your main meals, and not in between. Food with high fat content has also been found to reduce human growth hormone secretion.
Exercise
The fact that exercise acts as a major stimulus for the natural secretion of human growth hormone is well known, but there is still little evidence to suggest how this might happen. Various researchers have suggested that it could be triggered by exercise-induced increases in adrenaline, nitric oxide, blood lactate, acidity or nerve activity, either individually or together. Research has shown that to achieve an elevation of human growth hormone above baseline you need to spend at least 10 minutes exercising at above lactate threshold intensity. This results in the biggest volume of human growth hormone secreted in response to a single exercise bout, with levels of the hormone declining gradually over a period of an hour. It is also known that multiple daily sessions can give rise to optimal human growth hormone secretion over a 24-hour period.
One study investigating the effects of three exercise sessions a day with either 1.5 or three-hour recovery periods between them found that the longer recoveries led to the greatest volume of 24-hour HGH) secretion. Another showed an even larger human growth hormone peak in response to sprints on an exercise bike. It is also important to drink plenty of water during exercise, as dehydration has been shown to significantly reduce the exercise-induced human growth hormone response.
Sleeping
95% of human growth occurs during sleep, since the largest human growth hormone surge in a normal day tends to occur around one hour after the onset of night-time sleep, it is vital for athletes to get plenty of it. If the quality of sleep is inadequate there will be a reduction in the volume of human growth hormone secreted, with negative consequences for health and fitness. Important preconditions for good quality sleep and optimal human growth hormone secretion during sleep include a dark room and a balanced diet containing adequate protein. Of course, an adequate quantity of sleep is also required for good health generally, and for most people this means around eight hours.
There is of course artificial ways to increase HGH with supplements, injections, secretagogue and lots more used by athletes, body builders ect.. but it is quite dangerous and I suggest you consult that with your general practitioner.
SUPPLEMENTS EVERYONE YOU SHOULD TAKE.

An important part of the growth process is the right amount of certain vitamins and minerals to give the bone something to work on while it’s growing, you cant make pizza without the ingredients right? These supplements are taken along with height increase exercises to enhance bones and cartilages growth and repair.
» Calcium
» Vitamin D
» Glucosamine & Chondroitin
» Multi-Vitamin
Calcium
Bone growth requires adequate amounts of protein and calcium. Calcium phosphate crystals precipitate and attach to a lattice support as bone grows, forming a calcified extracellular matrix. Bone forms in two patterns, compact and trabecular. Compact bone is dense. Trabecular bone is spongy and has many open spaces between supports of calcified lattice. Osteoblasts produce collagen, enzymes, and other proteins that make up the organic portion of the bone matrix.
That is, old bone must be replaced by new bone all the time. Think of your bones as a bank account in which you “deposit” and “withdraw” calcium throughout life. Calcium is a mineral that makes bone dense (thick) and strong. During childhood, the teen years and early adulthood you build your bone bank. The skeleton grows and bones become larger, denser, and stronger especially when you practice bone healthy actions.
How much should you take?

4 – 8 800 mg
9 – 18 1300 mg
19 – 50 1000 mg
51+ 1200 mg

(Dietary Reference Intakes, National Academy of Science, 1997)
warning: Don’t consume more than 2500 mg of calcium per day; high calcium intakes on a regular basis may not be safe. Except kidney stone (a rare disease), thus far, there are no major side-effect reports about these supplements.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D is necessary to grow, build, and maintain strong bones. It helps your body absorb and use calcium. Vigorous exercise and healthful diet with adequate calcium & vitamin D are essential in achieving sufficient bone mass during the bone adaptation process.
Vitamin D is well known as a hormone involved in mineral metabolism and bone growth. Its most dramatic effect is to facilitate intestinal absorption of calcium, although it also stimulates absorption of phosphate and magnesium ions. In the absence of vitamin D, dietary calcium is not absorbed at all efficiently.It is important to follow your medical professionals advice and not to exceed 2000 IU of vitamin D from diet and/or supplements without a prescription.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin
Glucosamine, a common joint supplement, is one of the building blocks of a major component of cartilage, glycosaminoglycans. The theory is that Glucosamine, if available in high quantities from supplements, will help to stimulate cartilage growth. It is often combined with Chondroitin, another of the cartilage building blocks.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin together help cartilage to re-grow and stay strong and healthy. They restore cartilage tissue, and have some anti-inflammatory abilities. It may take from 2 weeks to 4 months before you see a noticeable improvement because they are 7not pain-killers.
When you are undergoing intense exercises to induce microfractures, complex chemical signals prompt cells called osteoclasts to break down and remove (resorb) old bone, and others called osteoblasts to deposit new bone. Many elements influence remodeling. Among them: weight-bearing, vitamin D, growth factors, prostaglandins, and various hormones, including estrogen, thyroid, parathyroid, and calcitonin.
The usual recommended dosage of glucosamine is 1500 mg in divided doses; and chondroitin is 1200 mg in divided doses.
Multi-Vitamin
Bones are richly supplied with blood from periosteal vessels. Bone growth requires adequate amounts of protein and calcium. A multi-vitamin has all the vitamins, proteins, & nutrients that the body needs.
Normally, 80% of the nutrients will be rapidly eliminated into bloodstream, urine, feces, and body. Thus, your goal is to get as much absorption as you can from each tablet.Here are a few tips that will improve the absorption:
» Buy liquid-form supplements if you can because the absorption rate is much more effective.
» Always take each tablet with a full glass of water with or after a meal.
» Try to break dosage up and spread it out over the day. For example, if the dosage is 1500 mg per day, and this can be divided into 500 mg tablet three times a day. Divide up your doses of calcium. It appears to work more effectively if taken in smaller doses spread out over the day, rather than a large dose all at once.
» Take vitamin D along with calcium to increase absorption by as much as 30 to 80 percent.
» Try take vitamin C at the same time you take a calcium supplement if you can. Or eat a food rich in vitamin C, such as an orange. This helps with the absorption of calcium.
» Don’t take iron together with calcium as best you can. It reduces the efficacy of both minerals.
» Don’t drink alcohol while taking supplements because alcohol will reduce the efficacy of minerals. You may drink alcohol but do so in a 4 to 5 hour gap in between so that it won’t interfere with the reaction of supplements.
» Don’t drink lemonade or any juice that has lemon ingredients in it. Lemon seems to dissolve and reduce the efficacy of drugs and supplements.
» Don’t indulge on soft drinks. They are high in phosphorus, which can cause you to lose calcium. High phosphorus intake can lead to calcium excretion in your urine. As a result, you should avoid sugar drinks (coke, pepsi, mountain dew) and drink as much water as possible.
» Don’t indulge on junk foods, alcohol, soft drinks, caffeine and white flour. All of these lead to an excessive loss of calcium from your body and a decreased rate of absorption.
» Don’t use calcium supplements if you have kidney stones or a history of kidney stones.
» Don’t buy any of the advertised height increase supplement, they are nothing more than glorified Multi-Vitamin that sells at a premium.
WALKING STRAIGHT (POSTURE)
Tighten your stomach, raise your shoulders, and push your chest out. Breath, but keep your stomach tight. Lift up, and be as tall as you can be. Got it? Good. Now hold that for EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY. It will be hard at first, But you’ll feel and look better.Your in essence MAKING yourself grow, and your stomach and back must adapt by getting stronger. Your upper body will appear bigger.I’d say it will take you a week to get use to walking like a soldier but don’t underestimate this exercise just because it seems simple.
EQUIPMENT YOU SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER.
A builder is only as good as his tools take him, for some of the spine and knee exercises you will need some type of equipment, you can improvise with stuff you already have but risk misusing something and may cause serious injuries, I suggest you buy a few of these great products that will be very useful along the way.
» Door Gym.
» Inversion Table.
» Inversion Boots.
» Ankle Weights.
» Weightlifting Wrist Wraps.
» Stationary Bicycle.
Most people buy the cheap ones at the beginning but by the end it’s worth spending some good money for equipment that will last, after all, can you put a price on the height you will have the rest of your life? Or at least till you get Osteoporosis =P.
FINAL NOTE
I will tell you now, growing taller isn’t easy, it will take A LOT of time.I calculated it takes around a month to grow half an inch doing ALL of the things above, so far my height has been permanent but thats because I keep stretching and doing a few of the spine and knee exercises, I think after a while of working out your body will re enforce what you have developed and keep it permanent.
At first you’re probably going to be measuring yourself each morning so excited thinking you have grown, my suggestion would be to avoid measuring yourself for 1 month, many people feel very discouraged if they don’t see immediate results and this takes time as not all bodies grow at the same pace.If you’re going to measure yourself at least do it at night as it is when you have compressed your spine and knee’s and you can really see the progress you’re getting.
Another thing to remember is don’t overdo yourself, start with small weight/slow repetitions in everything and slowly build it up, if you kill yourself the first week you will feel like shit on the second and after some time you’ll end up giving up like most.A great thing to do is create yourself a schedule around your life routine and splitting the exercises up at different hours, do the general stretches in the mornings, inverted hanging in the evening and micro fracture & ankle weights before you go to sleep.

no probs buddy, your still 16 so I’m guessing you still might have another growth spur in you, but the stretching exercises will sure help in that spur. The supplements your taking are fine, when buying calcium try and avoid calcium citrate as that is used more for older people to add width to the bone, just find a cheap one, other than that keep at it! =-)

Hey Sabrina, your still 17 so you might have chance of one last growth spur, although its a bit doubtful.I think if you do a lot of stretch it would take you about 6 months to gain 1-2 inches but if you don’t continue doing it for another 4-6 months you will loose most of that height as it needs a while to become permanent.
A site I recommend to a few people who need to do stretches (mostly girls since stretching requires less hard work then the other techniques) is http://geocities.com/gottogrow/, its an old site but the webmaster made a new routine of stretches for every week so your stretching workouts don’t get boring and it stretches different areas of your body.

Hi Matty, thankyou for ur suggestion…just another question 2 ask…as u said that its abit doubtful that id get a last growth spur..ye?…but if I continue to do the stretches…will there a 100% guarantee that I would be able to gain that extra 1-2 inches just by stretches?…and that 2 within the next year if I do the stretches daily because ive just turned 17?

If you’ve just turned 17 the chances of having some more natural growth increase a bit, I suggest you take 3 intakes of dairy products a day (cheese, yogurt, milk is the best) and keep up with the stretches, I can guarantee you can gain and inch if you keep it up and I’m sure the second inch is quite possible after 6 months :) Also do some exercise as I said exercise (netball, tennis ect..) increase the amount of growth hormone produced, swimming is a great option as theres no gravity in the water and you stretch out quite a bit.

Miles – try some of the stretching exercises for a few months and see if you grow a bit, if you do, just keep it up for maybe a year but I think you could have a couple of growth spurs in you cause your still 13.
Reina – my grandma (64) was 150 cms (around 4′11) and I convinced her to try out some yoga and stretching, she actually grew a couple of cms but lost them from breaking routine, I’ve heard many people grow at your age so I think you have hope, check out http://easyheight.com/update2.htm, its a height increase site based on big workouts routines, a 37 year old grew 3 cms in 3 months.

Theres plenty of spinal exercises, some decide to follow the simple ones I show on the spinal stretching page and others go for yoga or my favorite, the 14 week routine on http://geocities.com/gottogrow/ . As long s you keep consistent to them you should be able to pull a few more inches.

Ey DJ, it depends on your age, maybe your weight (extra weight pulls your spine down…) but if your under 20 and slim I think in a few months you get get an extra inch…

Hey – your article sounds very helpful but i was wondering if you think its still possible for legs to grow at the age of 20/21?
I’m a girl who just turned 20 and and would like my legs to grow around 2 or 3 inches but do you think thats still possible if i do like leg stretches? Also, once the human growth plates close is there any way of opening them up again through diet? And – sorry one last question – have you heard any cases of people growing longer legs after the age of 20?

Hi. I’m 5′8 and I don’t necessarily want to grow taller to affect my height…but the length of my legs. I have european roots, and therefore have a long torso and shorter legs. So essentially I want to lengthen my legs so they match my torso. Or something around that area. I want to make my legs grow 1-2 inches, is this possible? I’m 18.

Hey, I had a question about the Micro Fracture and Ankle Weight Technique.
I am a male and going to be 18 years old in 2 months. I am 5′3-5′4 and I really want to be 5′6. I was wondering if I should do this technique. Also, what happens if i don’t get my eight hours of sleep (b/c its really hard for me to fall asleep), would that be a problem. Also, is there anything I can use to substitute for ankle weights. I am kinda poor and ankle weights would be a problem, unless it does guarantee me some heights. If you could please give me some advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Matty, I just wanted to say thanks for this website. I am 14, around 5′2, and I would really like to grow at a few more inches….. do you think that this is possible? I am increasing my Calcium intake quite A LOT… trust me, I didn’t drink much milk when I was younger. I am trying to eat healthier, too, along with excersising more. I’m a sixteen year old girl who wants to grow two inches taller.
I’ve been feeling a little discouraged and fear that I might have hit a ’snag’ as far as my growth is concerned.
Due to a bout of depression, my diet and my sleeping patterns have suffered for the past four years now.
I hope that this hasn’t COMPLETELY hindered my chances of growing.
It’s not like there aren’t any tall people in my family.
My mother is 5′8.5-5′9 and my maternal grandmother is 5′10.
‘m also receiving mixed answers whenever I ask at what age does a girl usually stop growing.
Some people have told me that that age is sixteen and I’m going to be seventeen this year so, as you can imagine, I’m a little worried^^;
What advice can you give?

Hi this is simply GREAT! I am 24 now, but this gives me hope that there is still possibility of growing taller 2 inches or so. I do swimming 3 days a week for 2 hours, if needed more, I will do it. but what sort of swimming will make your spinal extend? I usually do breast stroke…

sleep 8 -10 hrs a day.
eat more sea foods ,meat and yogurts
do hip and lower back stretches and play basketball

o and how long do you think it will take i do 10 kilometers on an excercise bike everyday i drink 3 litres of water a day i get 8 hours of good sleep i have a healthy diet i havent eaten sweets or fizzy drinks in a few months i dont usally snack bt if i do its on fruit or yoghurts and ive been doin gymnastics for 10 months but its only 1 hour a week im trying to build up my flexibility!! what do you think??

Hey dude I just wanted to extend my thanks to you for publishing this incredible guide. You provided us with a plethora of useful information, in addition you’ve given innovative insights which I am truly appreciative of.
Its funny because you’re story is very reminiscent of mine. I’m currently 17 and developed an interest in modeling as several of my friends told me I should do it. I’m currently 5′11 and am looking to get to 6′2. If you wouldn’t mind I have just a few questions to ask you.
-In your guide you say that soft drink consumption should be avoided as it can stagnate our body’s ability of absorption. Is this true for every type of soft drink? For example, does a diet, caffeine free soft drink weaken our body’s absorption the same way a regular soft drink does? Should diet soft drinks be avoided as well?
-In my research I have come across many methods of predicting height. Apparently one method involves doubling your height at the age of 2, as apprently at this age we have grown half of our adult height. I was 3′1 when I was 2, so my projected height technically is 6′2. My question is, since I’ve never experienced an “intense” growth spurt, is it possible that I could experience a growth spurt shortly? One thing which I believe impaired my height was my poor nutrition as a child/ young teenage years. Ive heard that poor nutrition can result in growing periods being extended for certain individuals (this apparently is true of people in many south american countries). Do you believe that I can still achieve my desired height (6′2) even though I am 17?
-l-arginine is a supplement which is proven to stimulate HGH. Is there any specific reason why it is not listed in your recommended supplement section?

Quick question-
I do stretching exercises before I sleep, and then I raise the bottom part of my bed by 3 inches, then measure myself before I sleep, and I am 5ft 10. When I wake up, I measure myself and I am almost 6 foot. (5ft 11.5) Why is it that we shrink about 1 inch during the day and evening?
PS- I am 16 yrs old, and 5ft 10.

Your theory of this growth abstract doesn’t work. Necessarily, some of the spinal cord “excercise” can do harm to your back.

hey! i’m 14 and i’m ONLY 4″10 and a half. i don’t plan on being SUPER tall because i’m filipino and the average person’s just about 5″6 or so. anyway, i’ve been drinking a lot of milk (is 4 or 5 glasses okay or too much?) everyday and trying my best to get more than 9 hours of sleep. i also do stretching and hanging exercises. how long do you think it would take me to grow another 8 inches and is it really possible? :grin:
i’m really hopeful about my height, since my grandparents in my mother’s side had tall genes even if my mom isn’t as tall as they are but her siblings are.

Hey love the site, I actually bought a book a while back about how to grow taller. I’m about 5″8 and would love to be around 5″10-5″11. I will stop eating so many carbs (even though I load up on them to work out which might of been my problem), and definitely start consuming more calcium and vitamin D. My question is, I just turned 20 not too long ago, can I obtain 5″10 or 5″11? My father appearently grew a few inches in college and it seems that a lot of my family grows later on (18 – on). hey. my bf is 23 and he is 5′8 he really really reallyyy wants to get taller at least 3 inch. I have been looking all the exercise over here and they just seems a lot. I think it’s possible to grow for anyone, it just depends where you choose to grow from, women normally tend to stop growing a few years after their first period unlike men than can keep growing to their mid 20’s, so If I was you I would probably pay more attention to back stretching exercises more than legs…do yoga, swimming ect…Hope that helps.

I think you might be in the same boat as Sabrina which I responded to above, females natural growth stops 2-4 years after they first have their “time of the month”, you can try a few of the leg exercises like raised seat bike peddling but I’d concentrate on Exercises for the spine and general stretching :)

It really depends what you call late bloomer…are you a late bloomer in other physical aspecst? Like I had hairless arms till I was about 18 when I had my last growth spur, their still quite hairless :S, anyways I use to play soccer as well…some believed soccer would stunt your growth unlike basketball or swimming but I don’t believe it’s true, any form of physically exercise stimulates the growth hormone and with the proper amount of sleep (when most of the growth happens) and of course a balanced diet (calcium, protein, vegetables) and stretching exercises I can’t see why you wouldn’t be able to grow a couple more inches. =)

it’s nice to see you’ve started your exercises, go to your local pharmacy and ask for Glucosamine
& Chondroitin…they should have it, all types of physical activity help, jumping rope stretches your legs and knees so it should be a good exercise to perform in theory.

theres no secret technique to growing :p, its basically good sleep, good nutrition and exercises but something that has worked for many is inverted hanging…buy the Inversion Boots to hang upside down for a period of time each day, so far its had the biggest success rate cause ppl tend to quit the exercises out of lazyness but hanging upsidedown requires no work and is fun if you can turn the tv upsidedown as well ;)

You can find all the supplements you need at a local pharmacy, you don’t always inherit your mum’s growth glands, mine didn’t fully grow till she was 20, hahah I’ve never heard a girl celebrate not having her period but yes it is quite a positive sign so I believe you could have some natural growth in you, I suggest you take some supplements and simply do the yoga type general stretching exercises till your a bit older and if nothing happens go on to the more hardcore back/leg workout :)

Theres no set rules for anyone, jump rope as many times as you feel comfortable with without putting to much strain on your muscles…remember your going to have to do that amount or gradually more for the next 6 months so if you burn yourself out the first few days you’ll lose interest.
Common sense says you shouldn’t jump with your stomach full…whats the point?, and I’m not sure what orange juice (vitamin c) could have to do with growth at all, I don’t think it would help really, orange juice has citric acid while calcium is found in stuff like milk, yogurt ect…do you mix orange juice with milk? nope? me neither…it creates an unbalance in the stomach.

yo! its me again i think i read that when u wake up in the morning and measure your self u will be an inch taller.. well thats true i woke up today and i was 5′9” but after 3 hours i found myself to be back at my normal height.. so anyway.. my question could you tell me what do i have 2 do for increasing my spine.. because i all already do jump rope for my knees.. so anything for my spine.. like what exercises should i do..

thats great that your trying, the tricky part is keeping that extra height from the mornings along the day by building the resistance up through workouts, I personally don’t know how you are physically so I cant recommend any specific exercise for the spine but I’ve listed quite a few in the ‘Exercises For The Spine’ section of this guide and I’m sure you’ll find one your like :)

Yes genes plays a huge role in a persons growth, one of the biggest factors actually, at your age I really you will grow naturally anymore than a couple cm’s, you can however do some of the general stretching exercises, their simple and dont put to much strain on you while helping gain any natural height that you might have available.

Let me tell you, none of these exercises will have some immediately miracle growth…it’s impossible, to grow 3 inches on average it would take you one year of daily training and performing the exercises.The speed of growth varies from person to person so I cant give you a set date period.

to find out if you have any more natural growth in you or an upcoming growth spur you will have to visit a chiropractor or specialized doctor in that area.Pimples could mean many things…excessive oily foods, dirty hands rubbing you face while you sleep ect…, protein bars sound interesting to try, youll need the protein for all the exercises you have to do :)

I wouldn’t grow them if I was you…it would look freakish for someone to have arms that are passed their waste level when walking and honestly I have no idea…I’m guessing you’d do similar exercises as the knees? hold some weights while you let them hang on the edge of the bed.

I’m 14,5′O” and female.
I had been quite tall until the age of 13,when it felt like i had stopped growing and probably even decreased in height(like 1cm).this continued when i turned 14.
I don’t play any sports,but personally i have swimming lessons(just learned the basic) every week and i enjoy outdoor cycling.
I’m sure cycling on a high seat and stretching will not hinder my potential natural growth,but does hanging on a bar affect it?
If the answer is yes,then relying on regular swimming(mostly breastroke),cycling on a high seat,and stretching(regularly) also help me increase my height?
(my swimming lessons are like 1 hour,but i am going to swim more,about 3 times a week for 1 hour each?)(and by cycling i mean cycling for 2 hours outside for about twice a week)
Will it help?Please give me some advice on how this routine can be changed or what needs to be noted.Thanks.

I believe you have quite a good plan setup that if you follow you will be quite successful in your attempt to grow taller, perhaps the 2 hours of cycling outside in one go is over doing it as you want everything to be gradual and not create a shock in your body every few days by an extreme workout, how about 20 minutes of cycling per day? but keep in mind your still pretty young and might have a few natural growth spurs in you so if you do do the exercises (which I would recommend concentrating on the general stretching as it will stimulate your natural growth), do them in very small doses and not creating any tension/pressure on your body that might prevent it from growing naturally.

HI! i am a male, 15 and 165cm. My dad is around my height and my mum is around 154. The shorter ones are already almost or are taller than me. Thus, i am considered short among my friends. I am currently engaging in basketball and hoping to get taller. I don’t drink and neither do smoke. Will i get taller?

lol I’m not a fortune teller, if you read the article it says not smoking or drinking helps avoid stunt in growth, but parent genes play a big role…why not do some general stretching exercises?

also in the article it tells you to do the same exercises for 5 seconds (increase with time) and repeat a few times then rest, shouldn’t take you more than 45 minutes per day…try it the mornings as the evenings are best for harder workouts ;)

I know stuff like excessive weight and back problems can reduce your growth but I’d contact as specialist cause I don’t know much about disc herniations.

I believe yoga could be quite beneficial in your case cause there is many exercises that aim directly at the back so you should try it, give it a shot and report back if you have any results :)

once again thanks alot matt! I guess i might be in the same situation as u. My arms, legs and armpits aren’t that hairy compared to some of my friends, so am i considered as a late bloomer too? On the contrary, my bro who is 12 this year appears to be more hairy than me in terms of arms and legs.

yeah i am an asian, my dad is quite hairy but not my mum… My mum told me the reason for me not being hairy is maybe when she is having me on her womb, she did not consume any muttons… while on the contrary, she did it when it’s my bro’s case….

Anyways, yeah supposedly my doctor said I should be tall because both sides of my family has the ‘tall gene’. I got my disc herniation a year ago from doing a wrong move on break dancing. Do you think maybe that affects my growth too? :\

break dancing…lol damn, I’ve heard of cases where people had problems with their posture like slouching and that affected their growth…so if your disc herniation is putting pressure on your spine, your body may stop concentrating so much on the growth aspect and instead be trying to heal it, so finding a way to fix your problem would best beneficiary, yeah you can try the exercises I provide in the general stretching but those only touch on the surface of yoga…yoga will improve your health in many aspect so I’d sign up for a yoga class, cant hurt now can it? ;)

I cant really guess man…in theory if someone can grow 2-3 inches with this technique it doesnt really matter your current height…it’s more the amount of effort you put in it, plus your young so you shouldnt have much of a problem and might even have a grow spur in you.

i am 17 and about 5′8” to 5′9”. I have noticed that I am growing at a steady rate of 2 inches per year since i was 15. when i was 15, i was 5′4”, when 16 i was 5′6” and now i am 5′8”. at this rate, is it possible for me to reach 6′2” before i completely stop growing? modern research shows that males usually dont stop growing till they are 24. Do i have a chance of at least reaching 6 feet? i am a vegetarian, and i have a well balanced diet. i dont need vitamin pills, i get them from my diet. i have little less than average amount of iron in my blood. would that affect my growth? i also regularly exercise and have an athletic built. i am both sporty and nerdy. is that enough info to know my growth?

sorry man growth is something unpredictable, the rate you grow at reduces immensely before you reach 18 but you still have a few growth spurs, I think its possible you can reach 6 ft if you eat a health diet and do exercise while sleeping your 8 hours but I cant give you the guarantee your seeking.

its possible with a good diet lifestyle and keeping up with your exercise that you could reach at least 6 feet. i mean i turned 19 in may and at that time i was 5′9. like you im quite an intense exerciser and im strict on diet. today i stand at 5′11. so its possible. you just have to stay motivated and stick to what you are doing now. another thing is to look at your posture as well. standing up straight can add a few extra inches as well.

Im 19 yrs old and roughly around 5′11. around july/august i was about 5′9 and since then ive looked at my diet and postural stance as well as my exercise routine which is alredy very intense and ive happily grown around 2 inches since then up until now. this is probably a bit too ambitious but im hoping to reach about 6′2. 6′1 minimum. my growth rate has been slow since august but if it stays the same then it seems likely but i don’t know. feel close to 6ft though. any opinions?

Some people have experienced stop growth for a while and then after a few months it starts again, others actually strop exercising when that happens and have reported that when stopping for a couple of weeks, they grew an extra inch out of nowhere yet others claim they lost their gained height in that period. I think either way if you want to keep the height you’ve gained you have to continue for another 7 months so theres a lot of time for your growth to start a again and make it to your 6 ft dream :)

Did you measure your leg length by any chance to know if your growth is spinal or from the legs?
The amount of time you must continue depends on your growth place…if its spinal than yes you may have to continue doing the exercises cause spinal height can be lost if not re enforced with months of stretching…try stopping prematurely but if you noticed any height losses I suggest you start all over again…

If the growth is from the legs you dont have to continue for as long…spine growth is basically the little fluid capsules in between each spine which can loose its height as the capsules release the fluid again while knee growth is permanent bone or at least cartlidge height.

every ones routine is different, I’m just giving a general idea here of what has worked for many people, it’s like diets, people believe all diets work with everyone but if every ones metabolism isn’t the same…how can we all have the same outcome?
Grab a few of each exercises, play around with them (also helps keep your body flexible…the changes) and once you find something your comfortable with, stick to it :)

my routine was basically to improve my posture. so im nt slouching as much wen im walking or sitting. ive also worked on my back muscles as well. developing those has really helped me. and ive increased the amount of protein i take in because protein is the key to growth for any part of your body whether it be muscle or bone. i also did stretching everyday, mainly yoga ones.

Ok, Everyone, just stop for a minute…
…stop listing your age and your parents’ height and then asking the article author to predict how tall you’re going to be. How is he suppose to know? Stop telling us stories about how you’re 6′0″ and you want to grow another inch because you girlfriend’s taller than you. Or how your friend’s can touch your ceiling and you can’t, so you want your fingers to grow longer. Just stop being recklessly obtuse for a moment and think.
This article has been around for over a year. Is there anyone who has left a comment here, aside from the author, that has actually tried these methods and had success? All these people leaving comments (there’s got to be 50+), surely there should be at least a handful of people stepping forward with success stories. And before you go shoot off again, I don’t mean the kind of success where you measure your height first as 168 cm and then 8 hours later you measure again and it’s 170 cm and you think ‘Eureka!’. Then later someone else tells you about the morning/night height descrepancy. Also, don’t mention height that you’ve gained in a month and subsequently lost because you quit. Also, if don’t mention height that you’ve gained while you were under 21, cause could just be a growth spurt.

I dont know what equipment you might have available there…try to find a pull up bar and use ankle weights hanging from your ankles, if you can somehow find an inversion table then use that as well…just use your imagination based on the exercises showed on here, find something similar that you think will give you the same effect to the spine or ankles.

hey…well, i really want to help you because this website really gave me hope…the thing is that i’m 5 ft 7 inches,and i really want to grow 2 more inches. i’m doing pilates, yoga and power yoga, and in the past, i’ve seen that i’ve gain some centimeters. i’m trying to do the general stretching exercises (while i’m doing either pilates or some yoga), but i can’t do the stretching for spine and knees, since i don’t have the equipment. I’m also getting fish liver supplements which contain all of the supplements you suggest.
What do you think? Will i grow these 2 inches?? even though i’m not doing the stretching for the knees and spine?? Thanks so much, and by the way i’m 15…

lol you guys have to understand that I can’t predict the future of your growth…theres SO many variables to consider apart from exercises and nutrition you have ethnic background (some are more prone to be flexible than others), sleeping habits, general health, bodies ability to generate these liquids or micro fractures, best bet is to find stuff around the house and improvise if you dont want to purchase the equipment though from what I hear its much more convenient with it.

I have a question regarding diet. I live in Ireland where carbohydrate consumption is off the chart. We eat a lot of bread and potatoes. If I were to be eating at an average of two slices of bread per day at most and say about 3 potatoes, is that still too much carbohydrates? Also can you tell me what food you ate on an average day when you were undertaking this routine? Thanks for any information.

Hi Jonny,
Eating a lot of carbohydrates in your case is something inevitable with the cold, but you were probably born there so your metabolism is accustomed to such high intakes from a young age so what for me would be considered a big intake for you would be more normal, do the smallest doses of carbs you can that doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable.
As for food, I’d suggest eating a lot of protein and the recommended dose of calcium, protein is easy to find in meats, fish and chicken so try that.

I really honor the work you have put in this growing manual,
you see I have it pretty hard in my life, I am 16 years old boy, about to turn 17 in 6 months and I am only 5´1.Can you imagine to be that short while all the kids are around 5´9 at least!
the few past months have been hell for me, I even told myself that when i grow older and become a grown up my height wont bother me anymore because the grown ups dose´nt care about it, but then I found out that the most grown ups who are around 21 to 32 years old things that short people are less value than tall peoples. That even if you are a grown up you will still be bothered by your height!!..
Even thought i am only 16 and I know that i will still grow intil my 20 I know that i will only be 5´4 when i have finished growing, that was what my doctor said. Because my parents are terribly short.
I have looked and discovored many ways to grow taller in the internet, from cheap pills that help you growth taller to Leg surgery. I know now that the ONLY way to growth taller is to do exercises and earn it. Its here where my important questions come up.
Please and i mean PLEASE Matthew can you please tell me, is it any chance, even a little bit of chance that by doing your exercises I will be able to be 5´8

well I believe everyone has a chance to grow taller by performing these exercises if they stick to them long enough or else I wouldnt even bother answering anyone but it comes down to luck…luck in having the right genes that will be stimulated with the exercises, luck that you sleep properly and deeply at night and will power to not give up with the exercises, you know everything else is a scam to steal your money so what will you loose by trying these exercises for a year and get more healthy even if it doesnt work?

accept the height god gave you? lol, noo umm, when they say working out excessively they are referring to gym weight lifting type stuff…it compresses the spine, the exercises on this page are mostly stretch based apart from the sprinting and skipping which should have no long term effect on your spine (the more you exercise the more gravity pushes your spine down but it restores itself to normal overnight).Try one of the routines on this article and see how you go…you can also visit a chiropractor as your still in the age where they can inject you with growth steroids though I wouldnt go for that option.

The relation between body fat and growth Mmm, if you under 39 years of age the healthy recommend amount is from 8-18% I believe, I think carrying the healthy amount of body fat should be good…athletes have between 5-11% but how are you suppose to grow if your body doesnt have enough fat to stretch or get the appropriate nutrients to feed the brain?
Diet, the basic idea is to get as much protein as you can if your going to be doing exercises, try meats like fish, chicken or beef, try and consume as little amount of carbs as possible as their useless apart from helping somewhat in the long workouts, plenty of water and try avoiding any caffeine drinks or excessive sugar, no smoking or alcohol and we already established that Calcium will be a bit tricky if you want to find the right balance…but thats about it :)

if your plates are fused theres nothing you can do…go check a chiropractor see if he can give u some scan results to check if they are actually fused…if they are, keep doing yoga and that will eventually give you spinal height, can also try the microfracture technique and if ur really serious about it probably the limb surgery :S

To be honest…I find all supplements a waste of time, apart from vitamic c and a few others most dont really do much and I dont trust multi vitamins at all :S, the best supplements you can find are in a healthy diet so eat a lot of dairy products and meat for protein.

Because there are alot of pepole out there that are trying to scam… But anyways im 18 and a half, and i have to be honest i have been smoking cigarettes, and hash, and occaisonely drinkin alcohol since i was like 13. As I’ve said to a few people above, I cant predict how much you’ll grow or how big your success will be, I think for someone your age its possible to grow 3 inches if you stop all those bad habits (drinking ect) get a good sleeping pattern, lots of exercise (be careful with the weights…) and follow one of the many routines listed here as well as the general stretching exercises everyday :), maybe a year of work if not more but you have to be persistent.

With be careful with the weights I mean dont do many exercises that will affect your spine such as squats or any gravity pushing down on knees/spine type of thing.
You might have a last growth spur in you, who knows, I havent grown since I was 14 either lol and I’m going to be 21…some of us just grow to our full size faster than others.

Thats simple, at the bottom of your spine you have an arch/curve, when you sleep on your back most of your back is straightened out except that arch on the lower back that received all the pressure from the weight of the body, if you lift up your knees with a pillow, that arch lowers down as your knees are raised and therefore the arch doesnt rest in the air anymore but on the matress as well like the rest of the spine.

The foods highest in carbs are high in starch or sugar…anything made with flour or sugar, grains, foods with added sugar, and starchy vegetables such as potatoes and corn.

what is hyperglycaemia? How does it turn off the growth hormone. And should we eat low glymic index. Also, alot of tall people eats OD carhohydrates and still get taller. Can you explain me this? Thankx.

Hyperglycaemia I believe is a blood condition that I think has something to do with the high levels of glucoce and when reaching the brain can stunt the growth hormone into not generating its fluid anymore, it might be also due to the problem with carrying the growth hormone fluid via the blood stream together with the high glucose.
When your genetically destined to be tall…you can eat anything and still somehow manage to growth the height you were intended, people that are fed fast food everyday could get taller than someone with the healthiest most efficient diet if they had it in their genes their body somehow extracts more vitamins and minerals out of the little healthy food they eat than the rest of people.

The majority of people who do the exercises for over a year conserve their height intact for around 10 years (we assume…still havent had that long to prove it) but so far theirs people with gains that have last about 4 years already.

I’m in my early 40’s, and in good shape. My mom, God love her, shrunk from osteoporosis. I’ve been told men don’t generally get osteoporosis, and recent xrays seem to show my bone density is fine. But, I’ve had bad knees for decades. I walk everyday, but have creaky knees.
I don’t want to shrink. 2 questions; Let’s say I might not have “great” cartilege in my knees. Are you saying this ankle weight routine might give me a half inch of permanent leg growth? Also, I do work out, but try to avoid any exercises that would harm my back. Specifically, does bench pressing (currently 225 max) hurt one’s back?

Even though osteoporosis maybe affect more woman than men…men tend to shrink more for many other reasons including some physical jobs being more straining on the back ect..
Yes, ankle weights might be able to give you an extra half inch or inch of permanent growth if you stick to the entire routine and are persistent as well as watch your diet…sleep ect.I don’t think brench pressing hurts your back as much as other exercises…maybe if you can raise your knees in the air and just have your feet wresting on the machine it would help with your lower arch of the back from taking so much pressure.
You can also start doing general stretching which will keep your spine flexible and reduce any shrinkingness in the future.
Actually I think inversion boot hanging allow your body to go against gravity and that pressure it puts on your neck is at the same time stretching you downwards together with gravity causing all your spine to fully stretch out.Blood rushing to your head is good…apart from circulation, it stimulates your growth hormone (well in cases of people who are in the age range of growing…but it also stimulates other areas that will help your heal your microfractures ect…)

Matthew….One more question; I’ve looked over everything, but can not find more specific exercises to do before putting on the ankle weights. I don’t have great knees, but I’ve been walking, daily, for 20 plus years (plus 6 sets of leg curls, 6 sets of leg extensions, and 6 sets of calve raises..NO squats). I believe you wrote to do 15 minutes of some hard hitting legs exercises (can’t sprint). Could you give me some options? And, with 20 pounds on each leg, is a half hour with ankle weights enough, or do I really need that long hour? Thank you.

Mmm some other options would be jumping…? can you jump? or stomping firmly against the ground, even air kicks with ankle weights attached.
THe thing with ankle weights is that its not so much the weight you use but the time you use it for…some people sleep with their ankle weights all night or at least half of the night, stretching bones specially is a gradual thing that requires more time than blunt force (though you use blunt force with the pre-ankleweights-impact routine).

Ok. I know I said “that” was the last question; But, suppose I stomp in place for 15 minutes in the garage. What if I, then, go directly to an inversion board, and hang for 1/2 hour…getting off without standing on my legs, and going directly to bed….as opposed to doing the ankle weight thing? Wouldn’t the inversion be as good as ankle weights? I ask this, with the specific intention of making my legs grow (but stretching my back is fine).

It would be the same as ankle weights, but again…30 minutes of inversion would be about 2 hours of ankle weights (considering its holding double o triple the weight), so if you can hold on for 30 mins doing inversion, then give it a try…its thought to have the same effect as ankle weights if not better :).

I am 18 years old and I am 5′0.
Stretching helps you grow so if I were to pick up ballet will I grow?
My parents are Asian so they are short. My dad is 5′5 and my mom is 5′3.
There are people who are much taller than their parents. So I do have a change to grow taller than them right? or am I wrong? haha…
I was also considering liquid calcium that is FDA approved or hormone injections but I am afraid of the side affect.

Stretching does help you grow though idk if its the same with ballet, or else ballet dances wouldnt be petite but huge 6′2 basketball players…then again yogies arent that tall either, I would give it a try and see how you go with that.Also try swimming if you can or some of the stretching I suggested.
Not always are children taller than their parents specially women as they dont tend to grow as much, but you by average should be 5′3 or 5′4 so you might have a growth spur sometime soon, you can try the hormones or liquid calcium though I’ve a bit paranoid with any type of medicine or chemicals and prefer natural/physical stuff.

I also have some suggestions that might work for some people. As I further reseaches more streches I came across some that were helpful to me. i’m 5′7 and grew to 5′9 in a shorter period of time when I did these extra streches. I’m sure its not permanent yet and I could possibly grow some more, but i thought i’d try to help. Every morning and night right after waking p or going to sleep i do 6 extra streches.
1) while lying in bed stretch your entire body length wise fore about 20 secs
2) Stay in that position and twist your body left and right. Torso legs then both.
3) Sit up and rotate your neck in both directions.
4) Get out of bed and rotate your arms in both directions.
5)Stand with legs spread out about a yard and lean onside for about 60 sec, then the same for the other.
6) Do the wall streches, both arms individually and then the others you listed.
I’m still growing slowly but surely and i hope this will help some people. I’ll try and find some pictures to better explain them.

it depends on the type of weightlifting really…anything that compresses your spine downwards (squats ect..) isnt as good as for example, inverted hanging sit ups while holding a pair of weights in each hand…as for the last, I’d go with resistance training to strengthen the gained height.

Just follow the methods explained in the article…if you want leg height try cycling or ankle weights method, for spinal if you dont want to swim try to double the general stretching routine (instead of one session, two). :)

I don’t have an inversion table, and hanging from a bar kills my hands. So I came up with the idea of putting ankle weights on, and dangling off a normal table bent at my hips, would this be just as effective for decompressing the back?

Yes, the first few minutes are the ones that really decompress your spine, then the rest of the time is a more of a resistance thing where you give the spine time to lock itself in that position and hopefully get more fluids in between to gain your height.

I always suggest natural alternatives if possible…no artificial vitamins or minerals will ever come close to replacing what was intended for our development but if you feel the need to try HorsePower and stuff you should, and report back with your results…its had positive results for some but none at all for others so you have to find what works for you.

Gain inner energy through meditation? idk…, I’d suggest if you really cant stop drinking it then the second best thing would be to cut it down by half or more, we still dont know for sure if coffee does stunt your growth but many countries with high population of coffee drinkers (Italy, Spain) aren’t exactly known for their height then again it works for Brazilians…

Hey Matthew, first I’d like to thank you for giving me the motivation to do the exercises that you recommended. I’ve been doing these exercises for several months (along with several other exercises for the spine) and have noticed a small increase in my height thanks to better posture (decompression of the spine and muscle development on the lower back). However, I was quite disappointed recently when I discovered that the decompression of the spine does not equal growth or permanent thickening. My question is, by continuously doing these exercises, do you know if the spine can be permanently decompressed or thickened so that when the spine is fully compressed by gravity (night time), I will still notice increase in my height as opposed to having the same decompressed height at night before I attempted these stretching exercises?

I am in very good shape, and my family and friends encourage me to do modelling, because I am told to have alot of potential but i am only 5′6 and 15. hey!m 16 and just 5ft. I haven’t noticed any growth in my legs past 2 yrs and i guess my spine still increasing. I was wondering if i could any grow taller from legs doing these exercises.i do cycling with raised seat daily and even do pilates and yoga stuff. Could u plz temme how much time will it take to increase at least 1 inch frm legs. I had the x-ray of my legs done and doc says i can still grow inches from legs, may i know how much time would that take. I have noticed some increase in spine, but why no growth from legs…does that really takes that much of time. After exercising when should i start noticing the growth in my legs(lol, sorry stupid ques repeatedly..bt m really that eager!no wonder i chk my height daily). So, waiting for your reply. m sad :(

Hey, I’m a 19 yr old female and I’ve been barely pushing 5′0 since I got a growth spurt when I was about 11 or 12 yrs old (I began puberty around 8 yrs old).
I don’t aspire to be a model or anything, so realistically I just want to be at least 5′2.
I’m pretty sure I stunted my growth when I was 13 because I have never had any more than 5 or 6 hours of sleep since I was 12 and rarely exercised.
Since I’m female and probably already reached puberty, is it still possible for me to attainable 2 inches? I have a long torso already, so I really just want the inches on my legs…

its Mehr again..most of the spine exersizes use equipment n i live in a small house so i cant really keep those sorts of things n hanging doesnt really work for me…are there any simpler spinal exersizes or ones that use equipment which can be easily stored..i am doing the stretching exersizes but i dont think theyll be enough on their own..
if i do swimming once a week..wud that be enough spinal exersize? are there any simpler techniques?

hello matt, my nameis danie. I’m going to be 15 in late Sep., and I am only 5′1.5”. After reading some of your post, you say most females stop growing at 16, especially if they start there periods early. I started (period) when I was 10. I wanted to try the thing with the leg weights, where I let them dangle, but I’m not sure if it will mess up my natural growth, but it is pretty much dormant. Can you help? Thank you for the advice. I will start today.

Hi Matt,
I’ am a 23 year old female. My height is 5′4, I would like to gain a extra 3 inches to my height which I know is very hard. My family are very tall, although my mum is only 5′3. Hello Matthew! I consider myself very fortunate to have found your article – thank you from all my heart!! I’ll try to do all the exercises. I still have a question: I am 31 years old woman, would like to gain at least 1 inch; but my legs are rather short so I would better focus on the leg-streching exercise(angle weights technique). Do you think there’s any risk to get even larger calf muscles from this exercise? My calf muscles are rather large for a woman and I’m actually trying to reduce the calf muscle size by training. This is also the reason I avoid doing any jumps or cycling. Thank you so much!

Do not forget to drink plenty of water. You need water to keep you from dehydration and to replenish the lost moisture in your body while exercising.

i was 4′11 at age 20, and i’m 5′5.75 now, after 5 years…i have to be honest that i was a bit lazy about exercising everyday..maybe i could gain more height if i wasn’t so lazy, lol. i would stretch like 3x a week. sometime even skipped a week without exercising. exercise does help make you grow taller (along with healthy habits too). i want to post this for all the 4′11 out there to have some faith ^__^! be diligent with the routine, eat healthy, sleep well, and be positive, and you’ll grow! i gain .50″ after being 25.

Excellent site! I’m a model who is losing out on a lot of money and exposure because I’m only 5′6″ (hoping I can get 2 more inches by the end of 2010). These are the most practical, scientifically sound exercises I’ve found online (and free of charge)!
One specific question on creating stress fractures then using the ankle weights: should the 15 min of exercise be followed directly by the ankle weights or can I jog a few miles in the afternoon and do the weights before bed? In other words, how important is the lapse in time between the exercise and the weights?

hey all i want to tell u that this thing dont give any benfit …so dont…donttt wast ur time ….bcz if u google about the limb lengthening surgeries u’ll find that after the deadly pain during six months while they cut ur both legs and get apart them each day >>> u’ll grow 3 inches not any more it’s the maximum …..so just think little …..is it reasonable that u can grow up to 5 inches throgh sport and yoga!!! and if it is true ….then u’ll find that all yoga Specialists giants….

alright so im wondering is it possible for me to grow taller if i do everything(or close to it) on here.. i even bought the Glucosamine & Chondroitin supplement pills. Im 20 going on 21 5′8 130 lbs. I want to add these stretches into my workout plan, so realistically im trying to gain weight and gain height. at my age is this possible?
i play sports on a regular basis, used to be a starting point guard for 3 years going into hs, then i guess i kinda grew out of that phase for one reason or another..i dont know why my buddies always tell me i couldve been great.. but i play for fun now. i heard that playing basketball also helps your growth because you are always running or jumping reaching for the ball on a rebound or the rim for a layup/dunk. so if i incorporate all of this including having a healthy diet, taking multivitamins, working out(what are some good exercises that will not affect my growth?), STRETCHING, and getting a good nights sleep every single night, is expecting a gain a realistic possibility????? im about 5′8 i want to be 5′10 to 5′11.. should i go for it or am i just wasting my time??

hello, i turned 17 3 months ago. Im 5′8″ atm. My brother is 5′10″ and he is 2 years younger then me. does tha mean i will become taller or no? My 2 uncles are each above 185cm. i would like to know if i will still be growing in hight or no i mean i am only still 17. i heard most men keep getting hight till there 21-23..i know 5′8″ isnt bad but i was wondering u think i will reach 6″ at all even if i use diet plan and stertching excersizes. i also play basketball a lot…i drink 4 glasses of milk a day and 3 bootles of water.. Hi Matthew. This guide really is amazing and seeing you post it up here tos hare with everyone is really thoughtful of you. I have a question about growing. My dad is 5′5″ and my mum is 4′11″. I know this affects my height as I am 14 and 5′2″. I’ve recently started doing basic stretching to help and I just started going gym to lose weight as well. Can you suggest any gym equipment I should avoid that may have a negative effect on growing? I plan on using a rowing machine, tread mill and a cross trainer. Also, how taller would I be in roughly half a year by doing the basics on this guide e.g. Diet, Exercising, General Stretching and so on.

Hey Matthew, I am 21 and 5′4″. I never thought of my height until about last year when someone asked me to try modelling. I started following the stuff you’ve suggested here about a month and 3 days back (Sep 25, 09) AND I have gained half inch!!!!!!!!!!! (and over half inch in morning). I am really amazed and really don’t know if it’s possible to gain half a inch in a month????? Anyway, I really appreciate your help! with this improvement, I am now planning to target 5′7″ height in 6 months :D (I know it’s too much to ask for but I wana try lol) Thanks Matt!!!!!!!!!

Hi matt, my names rahil im 23 turning 24 in march currently taking GH Humatrophen and and doing some strectches in the morning and evening before i go bed, i do weight trainning aswell? should i keep away from that? or not lift to heavy? my height now is around 5.6 1/2 and i really want to grow, giving my self around 7 to 8 months to see some height increase, have you got any good suggestions in order for me to put on half and inch? per every 3 weeks or something? just a plan that i can stick to? look hearing from you

Hey, thanks for the amazing guide here, I’ve been scrounging the internet for ages on gaining some height and this by far is the best guide. I’ve learned that we need to activate the alpha genes inside of us, which most of us have. I have a skinny frame and very long arms that match up to most people 3-4 inches taller than me, so I believe my body can grow as well. But I believe for those who are short and stubby, I think that’s just how they will be :/. I plan to put my body into overdrive, and the best way I know to do this is to go running for 20 minute sessions, 3 times a day. This will not only keep my HGH levels high throughout a 24 hour period but I also think it will stimulate the alpha genes inside of me. Combine that with a little bit of stretching, a healthy diet consisting of low carbs, high protein and minimal fat and sugar to keep insulin levels low and HGH levels high. I’m sure this routine will work but I’d like your opinion Matthew. By the way, I’m 5′6 and 2 months away from being 17. I want to grow up to be 6′ My mother is 5′6 1/2 and my father is 5′10 or 5′11 and my uncle is 6′2, he was the one who was active his whole life so that’s what I mean by activating the alpha genes.

very good summary of height increase methods and knowledge.
@Kevin: crucial supplements are calcium and vitamin d, but also supplementing with whey protein can help you if you exercise properly. When it comes to nutritional supplementation, I would ,however, not just focus on increasing my HGH level but on healthy nutrition in total. Try to get all minerals and vitamins in sufficient supply.

Hey, Matthew I was wondering if your methods would work on me. I am:
19 years old, 5′6
my parents are 5′2 and 5′3.
grandmothers were 5′2 and 5′9
grandfathers were 5′3 and 6′1
I haven’t grown since I was 14.
my mom said when I was born that a couple nurses measured me and told her I would be atleast 6′0.
Since I was 16, I never really got alot of sleep. I would fall asleep at 1:30-2am and wakeup around 7:30-8am. On the weekends I get a little more sleep, but start sleeping around 2-3am, and wakeup at 10am.
Is there any chance of me still growing naturally?(Like Dennis Rodman, 11 inches over 2 years between 20-22)LOL, that would be a dream for me
If I change my sleeping pattern now, and sleep more hours(say 12-8), any chance that`ll do me any good
What is the best thing I could do to gain some inches.
Also, I was wondering if you could tell me a little about spine traction, and different ways I could do it.

So if I’m not mistaken, with these 3 articles I’m assuming you’re saying it’s possible for anyone to grow 4.5 inches. . . at virtually any age. . . wow. Well, I tried the whole spine thing and it took me 2 months to grow about 1 1/2 inch so it’s working pretty well. But just lately I decided to start with the ankle weights and my lower back hurts. Is this normal? I tried putting a pillow under my knees but it still kinda bothered me. I only used like 5 or 8lbs though for like a half hour. Oh and also if I am an active athlete (track and field) would the ankle weights harm my knees? I run a lot of sprints and short distances which is high impact, but the summer is coming up and I run a lot of distance which might be even worse for my knees. Should take a break while doing this during the summer, or is it completely safe??

Hi, my biggest problem is that I am 19 and my height is barely 5′ and both my mom and dad are short, my mom 5′ 2″ and dad 5′ 7″. so it’s obvious that people say everything is genetic! But now when I have started going to college , I find tall people around me n really feel depressed. Can I grow tall in spite of this genetic problem! please help

Hey :) this is Shontelle I’m almost 15 1/2 and I’m 5′7″ I want to make sure that I’ll be tall enough for modeling… i want to get into Victoria Secret by the age of 18. My mom is 5′8 and my dad was 5′8 or 5′9, how tall do you think i will be? My mom also told me carrots help you grow taller? Is this true?

can you help me I want grow taller rapidly because I am to short and I always wanted to be tall nothing seems to work for me tried everything whats is the easy to do it and what shall I do. can you give me some advice & information. Im 14 and a half years old and my height is 5.4 feet ( 164.5cm) and my goal is to be 5.9 feet( 180cms) by the age of 21-24.
Genetic information:
My father is 5.6 feet(168cms)
My mother is really short
My grandpa on my fathers side is 6 feet(183cms)
My grandma on my mothers and fathers side is short
Is it possible for me to reach my goal? And what do i have to do to reach it??

I am a 13 year old girl (almost 14 in a few months) my a is 6′1 an my mom is 5′1 I am 5′4-5′5 at the moment.I always wanted to be a model, is it possible for me to get to 5′9 or 5′10?. But according to some doctors girls stop growing 2 years after their first period? I don’t want to be this height forever :P. Also I id the ankle weights an my lower back hurts like hell an my knee caps is this supposed to happen? (the back I am more concerned for). And does nutrition play a major role in growing? my eating habits are rather poor since I have anorexic tendancies :/ and I am vegan on top of that. But I just got the multivitamin tablets will that help replace what I lack in my diet as well? according to height calculators my height at 21 will be 5′6-5′7 so I am guessing I have a shot at reaching my height goals but any diet tips since I am vegan?

hi im an 18 year old male going to be 19 next month and im 5′4 :( ive been really depressed all this time because it seems i dont grow im trying to do more basket ball and strech exercises i bought some calcium pills and i just wanted to know if im gona be stuck this size forever because it really brings me down so depressed please help me i really need to know :( do u think i can still grow? my girl friend is like 5′5 and that makes me feel worst because i love her and by the way shes bearly 15 so obiously shes gona grow more and im scared to be left behind all short please help me i really need it
