Browsing the web has become such a huge risk with the increasing amount of malware, according to google 1 in every 10 websites have some type of malicious script.Thats why the browser you choose drastically influences in your systems security. My personal choice for browsing is Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer has made huge improvements with their new version 7 but with the amount addons and features Firefox has to offer, there is no competition.
» Mozilla Firefox: Why do I recommend Mozilla Firefox to safely browse the web over every other browser on the market? It’s immune to all auto-installing viruses, spyware, & adware found on the web pages you visit. It does not use ActiveX controls at all, ActiveX controls are what viruses and malware use to install themselves on your computer without your permission. Apart from all that it offers extensions, there are some great extensions that will drastically improve your browsing security by customizing it to your needs.Below is a list of my favorite security extensions.
Must Have Security Extensions For Mozilla Firefox:
» NoScript: I Love It! It’s a security geeks dream, this great script blocks JavaScript,Java & Flash from all websites. You can later add your trusted domains (*cough*TRIPONIC.COM*cough*) to your whitelist with a simple left mouse click to allow them to execute these types of scripts.
» WOT: WOT, Web of Trust, warns you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. WOT’s color-coded icons show you ratings for 20 million websites – green to go, yellow for caution and red to stop – helping you avoid the dangerous sites. It integrates with search engines search results and completely stops a page from loading if it is found harmful.
» McAfee SiteAdvisor: VERY helpul extension that helps you identify sites that are linked to spyware, adware, spam, viruses, browser-based attacks, phishing, or online fraud. It has a huge database with detailed test results for more than 100,000 pieces of software and covers more than 90% of the world`s Web traffic. It integrates with search engine results from popular search engines and also adds an icon to the browser toolbar that indicates whether a site is safe to use, or should be used with caution.
» Link Alert: This cool simple extension changes the cursor of the mouse to indicate the target of a link with a cute little icon. This is great to know what type of link your clicking before you do, it could be an auto executable file.
» Secure Login: Security Login extension uses the built-in password manager of firefox, but deactivates the prefilling of login forms.Instead, you are able to login with one click or a keyboard shortcut.Just add the Secure Login toolbar button to your toolbar, or use the provided statusbar icon. This is another good security extension to have in case you have been infected with a keylogger or password stealer because by using this you wont have to type in your password and the spyware won’t be able to record it.
» SecurePassword Generator: I always recommend to never use the same password for everything,if someone ever gets a hold of it,they will have total access over all your web accounts and private data. With this handy extension you can generate a unique and original password for every site, you can use it in conjunction with ‘Secure Login’ to remember these passwords.
There are a lot of other extensions you can use, also you can try and install the Greasemonkey extension, with that extension you can install some security scripts found at UserScripts.org
